Who are they?
They are the Myrmidons who evolved from ants, the Amazons who hunt men for sex and sport, Halizones untethered from time and space, narcotic-enslaved Lotus-Eaters, subterranean Mouros and countless others. These are the dark peoples of the earth, not monsters but mundane humans who have been force to live with magic, madness and the supernatural for centuries; whose culture has been irrelevantly changed by the experience. From this experience, the dark peoples have come to understand worlds outside the ken of conventional human reckoning. They have gleaned the wisdom of ages, the perversion of the stars and the degenerate habits of countless gods and monsters. Eternal outsiders due to their experience of “the dark,” the dark peoples have come to exist hidden from conventional human societies; existing either in secret or so far from others that they may act freely.
Where do they live?
The discrete ethnic community was once the key refuge for dark peoples, discretely hiding in plain sight amongst the teeming masses of big-city life as a miscellaneous non-mainstream neighbourhood or else establishing townships in rural areas small and remote enough to go unnoticed (allowing the dark peoples to practice their culture openly). While these have remained, with the rise of suburban life following World War Two and thus the ethnic suburb, dark peoples were able to claim large plots of urban existence, allowing their culture and traditions to be practiced openly. The gated community has so far been a phenomenal extension, allowing the dark peoples to keep the larger world out. The revolution of information technology likewise, has changed the dark peoples community with organization maintained through text messages, e-mails and private forums. This allows community to exist in a decentralized fashion, ignoring geography.
